HWH time travel

Well, technical issues have prevented us from continuing the internet radio broadcast portion of our presentation. Oh, well. What did Theodore say? "...don't be sad it's gone. Be glad it was here."

Hard Work Hour with Douglas Douglas filled up my Friday mornings for most of a year straight and I am very glad I took the advice. Blog Talk Radio broadcasting was great fun. I thank the providers and everybody involved for their participation. But unless someone at BTR emails me with a new update, 9:30am Fridays is free once again.

I am so depressed I could eat glass. The best NBC could come up with to replace Outsourced was this Whitney crap. I am gonna go way out on a thin branch and say that the nation was just as bummed as I. Didn't we leave this canned "live" laughter crud way out behind us?

Oh well, the blog was supposed to drive the whole thing anyway. So now I will post a hilarious entry here every Friday, rain or shine, darkened mood notwithstanding.

And later might not mean later. Our notions of time and space have been given a strongly worded letter from some grad students in Geneva. Everything that the smartest people know is based on the theory of relativity (E=mc squared), from our favorite Jew to escape Hitler, Albert Einstein. But relativity has been cast in a doubtful light now, due to some research done in Northern Europe that I can't even fake understanding. But all the talking and typing heads seem to make a lot of it and say that we are going to have to rewrite the whole book of physical reality now.

If you need to catch up, now is the time.

We here will begin sometime soon. Definitely not today.

Now get back to work.

Namaste,

Douglas Douglas

Click BlogTalkRadio play button to hear show --->

Tune in to the Hard Work Hour with Douglas Douglas Live on Blog Talk Radio Friday mornings at 9:30 am Pacific Time.

Today's show: "Shame," is dedicated to  Marlane and Larry the hosts with the most.

...and Seemore, of course.

Also on today's show:
1) Local News
2) Other News
3) Local Papers
4) Shame
5) Lit Minit : The Journey, by Douglas Whiting

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

1) Local News

Avalos for mayor? Well, he sure looks good! But I don't know if Ed is too worried...

An American Blindness, by Tom Hayden

Iggy plays the Warfield.

Fillmore schedule.

...and the schedule for Fillmore neighborhood community building...

I can't believe I failed to mention Burning Man. The only news I heard through mainstream was negative: 54,000 with a limit of 50k spells trouble for promoters...

...but all the beat up Burners I saw on the highways and byways seemed to have a nice bit of chi to them anyway...

2) Other News

Wars, rumors of wars, chaos, misery, destructive storms heading our way, earthquakes and rumors of earthquakes...

3) Read your local paper. Join a local fight. Fight now and maybe a LOT later, too.

4) Shame

Are you ashamed of yourself? Really?

Try having someone you respect even a little wag their finger at you and tell you "you ought to be ashamed of yourself..." and see if it doesn't score at least a few points. Shame is a powerful part of our psychic makeup. Our parents, teachers, neighbors and clergy use shame as a tool to communicate displeasure and lack of conformity to common rules and societal mores. If you take the money from the collection plate instead of putting some in: "S____ on you!" Ibid If you want to do more with someone's swimsuit parts than they think is cool. Ditto for taking the bike not yours, the meatball, comic book, Xbox, and on, and on...

If we don't use shame, what do we use? How do you teach your kid and their friends who never leave your home how to be cool? Should we use shame as a tool to help people understand how they "should" act?

But what about the time when you felt really bad about something you did. If you are ashamed, what can you do about it?

Do these same rules apply to history as well as our families? Was it a mistake that the German citizenry wasn't more ashamed in the 20's and 30's? Has shame been part of the German pathos ever since?

How about us today? Should we be ashamed we had such a cretin for president as George W. Bush? TWICE? How about being in three wars when we can't afford to keep the lights on at home? Should we be ashamed about Iraq? Afghanistan? Libya?

Okay, enough about us. Let's get to the politicians. Should John Boehner be ashamed for his lack of support for the president last night?

Personally, I am ashamed that I didn't write a better version of this essay. Whadaya think?
